How do I use a Screen Reader?

To use the screen reader, please activate the integrated screen reader in the respective device settings. You can find this, for example, on an iOS device under Settings “Accessibility – VoiceOver” and on Android in the menu “Accessibility – TalkBack.”

After activation, you can navigate to the tolino app using the respective operating gestures and activate the “Text to Speech” function via the reading settings in the ebook.

How do I activate Text to Speech in the tolino app?

In the bookshelf view within the “Books” menu, tap on a title you would like to read. If the eBook has not yet been downloaded to your device, the download will begin (you will need an internet connection for this). Once an eBook has been completely downloaded to your device, it will automatically open in reading mode for you. Tap in the middle of any page to toggle the additional menu for reading functions on or off. To use the “Text to Speech” function, please tap on the 3 small dots in the upper right corner and select the “Read aloud” option. To stop the read-aloud function, please tap the center of the screen again, tap on the 3 small dots in the upper right corner, and select the “Stop reading” option.

Where can I view the accessibility status, accessibility features, and any warnings for a specific eBook in the tolino app?

To view this information, please tap on the “Books” menu on your home screen. Below each cover (book jacket) are 3 small dots that you can tap to access further functions and information about your eBook. To view the specific data you want, please tap on “Details”. In addition to a description, you will find further information provided by the publisher under “Accessibility Information.”

Adjusting Screen Brightness

To adjust the brightness of your screen, please tap the sun icon located on the main screen. You can then adjust the desired brightness by sliding the control to the left or right.

Furthermore, you can customize the color temperature of your screen using the Smart Light function. The available color range extends from amber candle light, suitable for nighttime reading, to bright white sunlight for daytime use

Viewing Accessibility Status, Features, and Notices for a Book
To view accessibility information for a specific book, please tap the “My Books” menu option on your Home screen.

Beneath each book cover, you will find three small dots that provide access to further functions and information pertaining to that book. To view the desired accessibility details, tap “View Details.”

In addition to a brief summary, you will find further information under the “Details” section. Please note that the availability of this information is dependent on the data provided by the publisher

Activating Large Print Mode on Your tolino eReader

If you prefer larger text within the screen menus, you can easily activate Large Print Mode in a few simple steps.

  • From the Home screen, tap the “More” menu option.
  • Navigate to the “Settings” menu.
  • Within the “Accessibility” menu, you can adjust the display size and text to 150% or 200%.

Upon selecting either option, all descriptions and menu items will immediately be displayed in a larger font size.

Handy tips

  • Use gestures: Make use of gestures when editing your handwriting.
  • Back up notes: Export your notes regularly to avoid losing any important information.
  • Different types of notebooks: Use Basic Notebook for basic writing and Advanced Notebook when you wish to convert handwriting to text that you can edit at a later date.

How do I save notes on my computer?

  • Export: Tap “My Notebooks”, select the menu icon (3 dots) below the note and tap “Export”.
  • Connect: Connectyour eReader to your computer using the USB-C cable.
  • Save: Copy the note files from your eReader to the computer.
