I’m having problems with my WiFi connection, what can I do?

There are a number of potential reasons if you are having problems connecting your tolino eReader to a WLAN. We have put together some initial help and guidance here to rule out the most common reasons for issues, so that you can try to solve your WLAN problems yourself. Please check the following:

1. Are you attempting to connect your tolino to the wrong WLAN?

Check that you have selected the correct wireless network connection. Please also make sure that you have deactivated the WLAN for all computers or devices in your WLAN network security settings. Ideally, you should also test your data on another device, e.g. a smartphone. If you manage to connect your other device without issue, then there must a different reason for the problem you are experiencing.

2. Is the WiFi signal too weak or is the WiFi unstable?

In large residential buildings with thick walls and without WLAN repeaters, the signal strength may be too weak or unstable to establish a WLAN connection where you are. Make sure the signal quality and availability at your location is sufficient. Try moving to a new location and moving closer to the router.

3. Are you using an outdated WLAN encryption method e.g. WPA1/2 with TKIP or WEP?

To safeguard your WiFi network’s security and prevent unauthorized access, there are various types of encryption that are configured on your router. Encryption protocols have evolved over time, meaning that some encryption methods are now classified as insecure or out-of-date. Our tolino eReaders only support up-to-date and entirely secure encryption methods. It is therefore no longer possible to connect to a WLAN that uses the outdated TKIP encryption method after updating to software version 11.2.2. Please check the encryption protocols of your WLAN if you cannot connect your tolino to your WLAN. Your WLAN encryption should be set to WPA1/2 CCMP(AES).

4. My WLAN network is not displayed in the drop-down list. What should I do?
Sometimes, networks do not appear in the list because they are hidden. To manually add a network that you cannot see on your tolino eReader, tap “Add network” at the bottom of the drop-down list and then enter the network name, encryption method and password for the connection.

5. Does your WLAN name or password contain any umlauts or diacritics?

Diacritics are letters with accents, tildes or dots, e.g. â, é, ő. Characters such as this and umlauts in WLAN names (SSID) or passwords can cause problems when establishing a connection. Depending on the type of umlaut encoding on your specific router, your tolino eReader may not able to access the WLAN.
